Your nights never leave your phone.
Everything you log in SomniSync (sleep, symptoms, hormone therapy notes, your family's sleep, and recordings) is stored only on your own device. We don't have a copy, we can't see it, and we never sell or share it. There are no ads and no trackers in the app.
If you choose to, the app can send us anonymous counts of how often it's opened. They never include anything you log. You can say no, and change your mind anytime.
What stays on your device
The following is saved only on the phone or computer you use SomniSync on:
- Sleep logs, naps, habits and notes
- Module data, including shift schedules, perimenopause symptoms, hormone therapy entries you record, and supplements
- Your children's names, birth dates and sleep, feeding and care logs you enter in the Family feature
- Sleep Session sound clips and movement data
- Your settings, goals and preferences
In the iPhone and Android app, SomniSync also keeps a backup copy in the device's own app storage so your history isn't lost if the system clears temporary storage. That copy also stays on your device. If you use your phone's own backup (such as iCloud or Google backup), your device may include SomniSync's data in that backup under your account with that provider.
What we do receive
- Your email, when you sign in or request access. We use it only to send your one-time sign-in codes, approve your access, and contact you about SomniSync. These emails are sent by our email provider (Resend), with no open or click tracking. To manage access, we keep your email with the dates you asked, were approved and were sent a welcome email, in our database (Upstash). After you enter a code, a cookie on your device keeps you signed in for 30 days.
- Standard hosting logs. Our hosting provider (Vercel) automatically records technical information such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to operate and secure the service. These logs contain none of your sleep or health entries.
- Error reports, when something breaks. If part of SomniSync stops working, the app sends us a short report so we can fix it: the error message, where in the app's code it happened, which screen you were on (for example "Patterns"), the app version, and whether you're on iPhone, Android or the web. It never includes your email, your name, your sleep, notes, recordings or anything else you enter, and it isn't linked to you. Reports are kept in our database (Upstash) and deleted after 90 days.
- Anonymous usage counts, only if you turn them on.See "Optional usage counts" below.
That is the complete list. We don't use advertising or third-party analytics or tracking tools of any kind.
On iPhone
If you've turned on Share With App Developers in your iPhone's settings (Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements), Apple may also send us reports when the app itself crashes. That's Apple's setting, not ours, and you can turn it off there anytime.
Optional usage counts
To learn whether SomniSync is actually useful, we'd like to know how often people come back to it. This is off unless you say yes.
If you turn it on, the app sends us, at most once a day:
- A random number made on your phone when you turn this on. It isn't tied to your email, your name, your device, or your sign-in.
- How many weeks it has been since you first opened SomniSync.
- Which of the four tabs (Today, Patterns, Report, You) you opened that day, and whether you started the sleep recorder.
- The app version and whether you're on iPhone, Android or the web.
It never sends: your sleep, logs, notes, recordings, modules, medications, Apple Health data, location, or anything else you enter.
We use these counts only to improve SomniSync, mostly to see how many people still use it after two and four weeks. They aren't used for advertising, aren't sold, and aren't shared, except with our hosting provider (Vercel), which stores them for us.
You can turn this off anytime in You > Privacy, data & account. When you do, the app stops sending and makes a new random number if you ever turn it back on. Counts are deleted after 13 months.
Apple Health
If you choose to connect Apple Health, SomniSync reads your sleep and heart-rate data so it can show them alongside your own logs. This data is saved only on your device. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with anyone. You can turn off access at any time in the Health app under Sharing, then Apps.
Microphone, motion and voice
- Microphone and motion sensors are used only while a Sleep Session is running, and only after you allow them. Sound and movement are analyzed on your device; any clips are saved on your device only.
- Voice commands use your device's built-in speech recognition. Depending on your device, the operating system provider (for example Apple or Google) may process that audio under its own privacy policy. SomniSync does not receive the audio.
Weather and location
Weather is off until you turn it on. If you do, SomniSync uses either your approximate location or a city or ZIP code you type. Locations are rounded to about 11 km (city level) before they leave your phone.
Your phone then asks Open-Meteo, a free public weather service, for the local forecast and air quality. That request goes directly from your device to Open-Meteo; it never passes through SomniSync's servers, and no name, email or sleep data is included. Each night's temperature, humidity and air quality are saved on your device with your sleep log. You can turn weather off anytime in Settings.
Children
SomniSync is intended for adults. The Family feature lets a parent or caregiver record their child's sleep; that information is entered by the adult and stays on the adult's device. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us their email, contact us and we'll delete it.
Deleting your data
- You > Privacy, data & account > Delete all my data permanently erases everything SomniSync has saved on your device, including the backup copy and sound clips.
- Deleting the app also removes its data from your device.
- You can export a copy of all your data at any time from You > Privacy, data & account > Export my data.
- You > Privacy, data & account > Delete my account also deletes your email from our database. Or email Somnisync@yahoo.com and we'll delete it.
- Usage counts can't be matched to you, so we can't pick out yours to delete. Turning them off stops them, and they're deleted after 13 months.
Purchases
SomniSync doesn't currently sell anything in the app. If we add paid features, purchases will be handled by Apple, Google or our payment provider, and we'll update this policy before that happens.
Not medical advice
SomniSync is a wellness and tracking tool, not a medical device. It doesn't diagnose, treat or give medical advice. Talk with your clinician about any health concerns.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for meaningful changes, let you know in the app. Questions or requests: Somnisync@yahoo.com.
